11 killed in separate mass shootings across Cape Flats

Western Cape Police are investigating three separate mass shootings in Langa, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha, on the Cape Flats, overnight, that have claimed the lives of 11 people.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says in the first attack three men – aged 25, 31 and 35 – were shot dead in Lingelethu West in Khayelitsha on Saturday night. Shortly afterwards, five people were gunned down in Langa’s Phase 3.

Potelwa says in the early hours of this morning, yet another attack occurred in the Potelwa informal settlement in Gugulethu, where two men and a woman were fatally wounded. Two others sustained injuries.

The motive for the attacks is under investigation. Potelwa says police deployments have been stepped up in these and other potential hotspot areas.
