By Zoila Palma: Pope Leo XIV will travel to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru in November for an Apostolic Journey spanning 6 to 17 November 2026, the Holy See Press Office has announced.
The visit will mark the Pope’s sixth international trip and will take him across 10 cities in the three South American countries.
The Pope is scheduled to visit Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida in Uruguay from November 6 to 8, followed by Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján in Argentina from November 8 to 11. He will then travel to Peru, where his itinerary includes Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa from November 11 to 17.
The trip will carry particular significance in Argentina, the homeland of Pope Francis, who was born in Buenos Aires but did not visit his native country during his 12-year pontificate. Uruguay, meanwhile, has the lowest proportion of Catholics in Latin America, with Catholics accounting for about 36% of its population.
Peru also has a strong personal connection to Pope Leo XIV, who first arrived in the country as a missionary in the 1980s.
