John Travolta arrested after Warren Park shop robbery

POLICE have arrested John Travolta, a 34-year-old Harare man and namesake of famous American actor, in connection with an armed robbery at Warren Park D Shopping Centre in Zimbabwe’s capital.

During the robbery, cash amounting to US$3,813 and ZiG1,200 was stolen.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Travolta, who is accused of committing the robbery with an accomplice who remains at large.

The robbery occurred Saturday, August 8, at around 7pm when the two suspects allegedly stormed a shop armed with a pistol and wearing balaclavas.

According to Nyathi, the suspects threatened the shopkeeper before fleeing with the cash.

Members of the public pursued the suspects and managed to apprehend Travolta.

Police subsequently recovered part of the stolen money from the suspect, comprising US$1,071 and ZiG775.

Police are continuing investigations as efforts to arrest the second suspect intensify.

Commissioner Nyathi urged members of the public with information that could assist in the arrest of the outstanding suspect to report to the police.
