A man has been charged with the murder of Venus “Toho” Joseph, more than a year after his charred remains were discovered in a burnt vehicle at Cannelles, Vieux Fort.

Larian Swanson was arrested and charged following an investigation by the Major Crimes Unit into Joseph’s death.

The case dates back to September 15, 2025, when officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Southern Divisional Headquarters in Vieux Fort began investigating after a burnt motor vehicle containing a charred human body was found at Cannelles.

A post-mortem examination conducted four days later determined that the person had died from hypovolaemic shock due to extensive thermal injuries.

DNA testing subsequently confirmed that the remains were those of Joseph.

The Major Crimes Unit later assumed responsibility for the investigation as a homicide.

Swanson was arrested last week and subsequently charged with Joseph’s murder.

He appeared before the Second District Court and was remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
