ONDANGWA – While testifying in the Ondangwa Magistrates’ Court this week, an intern doctor at Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital, Dennis Noa (31), who is accused of raping a taxi driver, told the court that he wants to return to work because the hospital is short of doctors and his services are essential.
“I am innocent. The complainant did not tell the truth. I want to go back to work to continue serving the patients,” he said.
Noa will remain in custody after his case was postponed to 9 October 2026 for the continuation of his bail application and cross-examination.
He was arrested in July after being accused of raping a male taxi driver (26) in his room at the hospital premises.
Noa further testified that the complainant was attempting to extort money from him to invest in a taxi business.
In his plea for bail, Noa said he was not guilty and wanted to return to work to protect his career.
He told the court that he would abide by any bail conditions.
He said he could only afford N$5 000 for bail with the help of his family, as he had not yet been paid and was uncertain about his employment status.
Noa further told the court that the complainant threatened to open a rape case against him after he refused to give him money from the N$10 000 he had earned through overtime.
He also denied drugging the complainant in connection with the alleged sexual assault, saying that he only took his prescribed medication.
“The complainant came to my room four times to sleep over. He used to cook and clean my room while I was at work,” Noa told the court.
He said there was no rape because the two were in a relationship.
“We met as friends in May. Later, we fell in love. However, the complainant started demanding money, which I did not give him,” he said.
Noa said that if he is released from custody, he will not contact the complainant because he does not want to interfere with the investigations.
“I don’t know where the complainant stays, but he told me that he has two children,” he said.
Noa further testified that after the incident, he reported the matter to the police and took pictures as evidence after the complainant allegedly broke the window of his room.
“He grabbed my phone and ran away. I went outside to alert the security guards. Later, he was found and taken to casualty for treatment because he had injured himself,” said Noa.
Noa confirmed that he was arrested the following morning in connection with the rape case.
According to the police report, based on the complainant’s statement, it is alleged that Noa invited the taxi driver to his room to drink.
Police allege that the two spent the night drinking together, after which Noa allegedly put pills in the complainant’s cup, causing him to fall asleep.
He was allegedly raped by Noa.
Police further allege that when the complainant woke up, he tried to open the door, but the keys had been hidden.
He then allegedly broke the window, later found the keys and ran away.
Meanwhile, Noa denied all the allegations and said he was ready to provide WhatsApp conversations as evidence.
The complainant also submitted a statement to the court in which he said he was scared of Noa being granted bail, as he feared that Noa might look for him.
Noa’s mother became emotional as she watched her son testify in court and mention some sensitive details during his testimony.
