For nearly 60 years, RFK Stadium was woven into the fabric of Washington, D.C., serving as the backdrop for unforgettable sports moments, legendary concerts and generations of memories across the DMV. Ahead of RFK Legacy: A Tailgate Experience, 93.9 WKYS’ Problem Child sat down with Shayne Wells, Vice President of Communications for Events DC, to talk about celebrating the stadium’s history and what’s next for the iconic site.

RFK Legacy: A Tailgate Experience takes place Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Fields at RFK Campus. The free community event will feature live music, food, family activities, a kids zone, games, community leaders and legendary athletes sharing their favorite RFK memories, along with performances from the Eastern High School Marching Band and D.C.’s own Backyard Band.

Free parking will be available beginning at noon in Lot 6, accessible through the Oklahoma Avenue/Exxon entrance near Oklahoma Avenue and Benning Road. Individual tailgating by attendees will not be permitted.
