Lambeth Green Party members gather online this evening for a hustings with eleven candidates seeking the party’s nomination for the expected Streatham St Leonard’s by-election.
The seat became vacant after Saiqa Ali, who was suspended by the party during the campaign, declined to take her seat. A win would take the Greens to 29 on the 63-seat council, strengthening newly elected leader Martin Abram’s position as he seeks to form an administration.
The candidates are:
- Anidi, Emmanuel – smart meter engineer and COVID volunteer with British Gas
- Ball, Michael – veteran community campaigner who led the fight against the Garden Bridge
- Collins, Andrew – former Labour councillor for Clapham East who defected this week
- Goddard, Ronald -Coleman – politics student and Windrush descendant who grew up in Lambeth social housing
- Goodwin, Dario – Green election organiser, union rep with IWGB and Green New Deal Rising
- Golah-Ebue, Richard – Brixton-based former NHS consultant and Metropolitan Police volunteer
- Johnson, Pete – 30-year ward resident and retired rail industry IT specialist
- Mbiada, Ife – community activist focused on solutions for local and environmental issues
- Mugenyi, Moses – law student at Birkbeck with community organising experience
- Rana, Qaisar – Streatham filmmaker and illustrator who stood in Stockwell East on May 7th
- Young, Stacey – lifelong Lambeth resident and former Green candidate for Gipsy Hill
