HOUSTON — The Houston Texans came within 40 seconds of their first victory of the season Sunday, but a late touchdown connection from Dak Prescott to CeeDee Lamb gave the Dallas Cowboys a 34–30 comeback win at Reliant Stadium.

Houston led 16–6 at halftime and held a 23–13 advantage early in the third quarter before Dallas found its rhythm. Cowboys running back Javonte Williams scored three rushing touchdowns in the second half, the highest single-game total of his NFL career, as Dallas erased the deficit and took a 27–23 lead in the fourth quarter.

The Texans answered with an 87-yard drive late in the game. A hook-and-ladder involving tight end Dalton Schultz and running back David Montgomery helped move Houston to the Dallas 6-yard line, and Woody Marks scored on the next play. The touchdown put Houston ahead 30–27 with 2:23 remaining.

Dallas responded immediately. Prescott guided an 11-play, 74-yard drive that included a fourth-down conversion before finding Lamb for a 12-yard touchdown with 40 seconds left. Houston’s final possession ended when C.J. Stroud’s desperation pass fell incomplete.

Lamb, who attended Foster High School in Richmond after moving to the Houston area following Hurricane Katrina, finished with a career-high 17 catches for 189 yards and the winning score. Prescott completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

Houston also produced several standout performances. Stroud passed for 347 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Nico Collins returned after missing two games with a hamstring injury and caught seven passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

The Texans outscored Dallas 16–6 in the first half, but the Cowboys answered with 28 points after halftime. Penalties also hurt Houston: the Texans were flagged 13 times for 90 yards, compared with six penalties for 47 yards against Dallas. Neither team committed a turnover.

The loss dropped Houston to 0–4, while Dallas improved to 2–2. The game also marked the Texans’ 25th-season celebration, with franchise alumni including Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, DeAndre Hopkins, Brian Cushing, Billy Miller and former coach Gary Kubiak recognized during halftime.

Houston will try again for its first win next Sunday on the road against the Tennessee Titans. Dallas returns home to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.
