Thembisa man handed life in prison for raping, kidnapping partner

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape, kidnapping and attempted murder of his intimate partner by the Thembisa Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that Sizwe Mlotshwa would leave the victim locked inside their room in Thembisa, east of Johannesburg, when he went to work and threatened to kill her if she sought help.
During her captivity, Mlotshwa would repeatedly rape the victim without her consent, burn her with cigarettes and assault her on the head with an iron bar.
NPA Gauteng spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole says they welcome the conviction and sentence.
“Mlotshwa also received an additional sentence for attempted murder, kidnapping and contravening the Immigration Act. The sentence reflects the seriousness of Gender-Based Violence and as the NPA, we will continue to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.”
