Tropical Storm Cristobal forms in Atlantic, 3 more disturbances being monitored

By Zoila Palma: Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed over the central subtropical Atlantic.

As of this morning, Tropical Storm Cristobal continued moving rapidly eastward, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and higher gusts.

Cristobal is moving east at approximately 25 mph and is expected to turn east-northeastward while slowing later today and tonight.

Gradual weakening is forecast, with the storm expected to dissipate on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a tropical wave in the central tropical Atlantic, designated AL92, is producing showers and thunderstorms about 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Conditions are expected to remain favorable for development, and the system could become a tropical depression as it moves westward to west-northwestward.

The NHC gives the system an 80 percent chance of formation within both 48 hours and seven days.

Another area, designated AL93, located about 1,050 miles east-northeast of Bermuda, has become better organized and is already producing tropical-storm-force winds southeast of its center.

The system has an 80 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm within 48 hours and is expected to move east to east-northeastward at about 20 mph.

A separate tropical wave just offshore western Africa has a lower chance of development, with a 20 percent chance within 48 hours and 30 percent within seven days.
