Weather experts monitor 2 Atlantic disturbances

By Zoila Palma:  The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring two weather disturbances in the Atlantic Basin, including a broad area of low pressure east-southeast of Bermuda that continues to show signs of organization.

The system, located several hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda, could develop further over the next few days and may briefly become a tropical depression or tropical storm.

The disturbance is expected to move northward to north-northeastward, remaining well northeast of Bermuda.

The NHC gives the system a 50% chance of development within 48 hours and a 50% chance within seven days.

Meanwhile, a tropical wave and associated area of low pressure has moved offshore of West Africa, producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

The NHC says environmental conditions are expected to be marginally favorable for development, with the system forecast to move generally westward at approximately 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.

The disturbance has a 20% chance of developing within 48 hours, increasing to 60% within seven days.

Forecasters say a tropical depression could form by the middle to latter part of the week as the system continues westward.
