Alwayne Love drops Debut Album
Most artistes feel some anxiety when recording their first album. As the release date approaches, those feelings usually intensify.
Alwayne Love experienced similar sensations during production for his self-titled set which dropped on May 1 by T25 Records, a company based in Brooklyn, New York. It has nine songs which cover his broad tastes.
The album is co-produced by Mark Burke and Steven Ventura.
“Getting ‘Alwayne Love’ out feels like finally giving thanks for a stage I had to grow into, not just arrive at. It was supposed to land in April, but distribution issues pushed it to May 1, after what the team publicly called ‘a lot of setbacks’,” Love disclosed. “That wait made the release feel less like hype and more like perseverance.”
He wrote all the songs on the album, only one of which, ‘Africa The Motherland’, was released prior to May 1. That pounding roots rocker came out in 2024.
‘Drop it Supreme’, another song from ‘Alwayne Love’, favours the neo-roots sound of Protoje and Chronixx. ‘Where Did You Go’ has pop overtones, while ‘Wake Up’ is a dancehall jam.
Love deliberately went for diverse sounds to show his versatility.
“The album is rooted in reggae, but Mark Burke and Steven Ventura helped me blend in other genres to make it fluid enough for a global audience. In a scroll-fast culture, that longer form lets people sit with the music and pull what they need from it,” he stated.
From St. Mary parish in eastern Jamaica, Love has been a recording artiste for over 10 years. He started his career as J Love, a gospel singer, but a different moniker also brought about a change in musical direction.
He has released several singles in recent years, but still believes the album is the litmus test for a serious artiste.
“Because a single can’t carry the full story. I deliberately put out a nine-track project with no collaborations, via T25 Records, so I could establish my voice across a cohesive body of work instead of chasing one viral beat,” said Love.
