Former Bowl Champ Darron Lee Alexander Charged With Murdering Girlfriend
Darron Alexander Lee has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend in Tennessee and was charged with her murder
A former NFL player, Darron Alexander Lee, was arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend in Tennessee and charged with murder.
A Facebook post by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Chattanooga revealed Lee’s arrest after first responders arrived at the scene to find the girlfriend, who was not identified, dead, although they attempted life-saving measures. They arrived at the home during the afternoon on Feb. 5.
Police officers have stated that the former athlete, who was drafted by the New York Jets in the 2016 NFL Draft, was on the scene, and he was arrested and is facing charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Officers arrived at the residence after someone called around 1:34 that afternoon.
According to News Channel 9, based on an affidavit, when police arrived at the home, they confronted Lee, and he told them that he believed she may have fallen in the shower, as they found the woman lying unconscious on a couch.
As officers noticed that there were no signs of forced entry, yet, they discovered broken glass in the kitchen, and there was blood in multiple places in the home.
Investigators noticed that the evidence around the residence did not match what Lee said happened. They also found cleaning supplies in unusual places. They saw that Lee had injuries that matched a possible struggle, which included injuries to his face, hand, and body. There was also blood found inside his phone case. While at the residence, Lee refused to respond to questions from law enforcement.
While looking at the victim’s body, investigators documented that she had multiple injuries, including a stab wound to the abdomen and bruising to her head, eyes, arms, and torso. They also noticed what appeared to be a bite mark on her shoulder.
A forensic test revealed that blood had been cleaned from several areas in the residence, suggesting that there was an attempt to conceal evidence. Alcohol, drugs, and a firearm were discovered as well.
Lee was later taken to the Hamilton County Jail, where officers confiscated his phone and clothes as evidence. The former football player had previously been detained over domestic violence issues with other women- as late as 2023.
Lee is no stranger to law enforcement, as he was also arrested in 2023 for assault and domestic violence in Ohio. The arrest report cited that he pushed a woman “against the wall, throwing her to the floor and striking her face and head eight to nine times with his closed fists.”
In another incident, he allegedly threw a phone at another woman that struck her in the head.
The suspect, according to ESPN, was an NFL linebacker who played his college football at Ohio State and for the New York Jets. He also played for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills, and the Las Vegas Raiders during his five-year career, winning a Super Bowl championship while playing with the Chiefs (2020).
