Astranis and stc Partner on Dedicated Satellite for Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is set to receive a dedicated satellite under a new partnership between Astranis Space Technologies  and Saudi telecommunications operator stc , as the Kingdom expands its digital infrastructure and connectivity capabilities.

Doug Abts, Chief Commercial Officer at Astranis, said the company is bringing a dedicated satellite to Saudi Arabia through its partnership with stc. He described the satellite as an additional layer of connectivity designed to strengthen the terrestrial infrastructure supporting governments, businesses and consumers.

According to Abts, Saudi Arabia is investing more than $8 billion in digital infrastructure as part of efforts to advance the Kingdom’s digital economy, with stc playing a central role in that development.

The satellite will use Astranis’ MicroGEO technology, which provides dedicated geostationary orbit capacity with customer-defined coverage. The company says the approach can give countries greater control over critical communications infrastructure while enabling data to remain within the country.

Astranis also highlighted the resilience benefits of dedicated satellite infrastructure, providing an independent connectivity path that can complement terrestrial networks and help strengthen communications infrastructure.

Abts said the satellite is expected to enter service in 2027, marking another step in the expansion of dedicated satellite connectivity for national infrastructure.
