Uganda U20 Rugby Cranes have earned promotion to the Performance Division of the Barthes Cup after defeating Zambia twice.
Uganda sealed qualification in the first-leg encounter against Zambia when they won 81-00. The second leg was more or less a dress rehearsal as Martial Tchumkam made several changes to his side.
Despite putting on a shoddy performance, the junior Cranes won the second leg 27-12 to bring the aggregate score to 108-12.
These two fixtures against Zambia have provided valuable experience to the youngsters, but also the coaching staff headed by Tchumkam.
From the 31 players in the Uganda squad, selection of the team to face Zimbabwe shouldn’t be a headache as most players have stood up to be counted, while a few others crumbled under continental pressure.
Uganda now joins Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe in the Performance Division, while Tunisia is relegated to Division 1.
For now, the future of Division 1 hangs in limbo due to financial constraints that saw Madagascar and Ivory Coast entirely pull out of the 2026 edition.
