By Zoila Palma: At least 31 people have been killed and hundreds of tourists are feared missing after a massive flash flood swept through villages near the Nepal-China border.
Dramatic footage shows powerful floodwaters rushing through communities, submerging homes and leaving widespread destruction, with authorities warning that the death toll could rise, CNN reports.
The disaster has also affected Tibet, where Chinese state media reported major casualties after a mudslide struck the Gyirong port.
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an all-out search and rescue operation as authorities worked to locate people trapped or missing following the disaster.
Nepal’s Foreign Minister said an earthquake triggered a large landslide that blocked a river before a sudden surge of water swept downstream.
Rescue teams have been using helicopters to reach stranded residents and evacuate people from rooftops as floodwaters continue to threaten communities.
