The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has called for stronger links between Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and Nigerians living abroad.
Speaking at the Nigeria Diaspora Investment & Economic Conference (NDIEC) 2026 in Canada, Abdullahi highlighted the potential of Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute expertise, investment, technology networks and access to international markets.
He said Nigeria should increasingly shift from a model of brain drain to brain circulation, enabling skilled Nigerians abroad to contribute to the country’s digital and economic development while maintaining their global careers.
The NITDA chief also stressed the need to move beyond reliance on remittances towards strategic diaspora investment, particularly in technology and innovation.
According to Abdullahi, Nigeria’s ideas, ingenuity, resilience and global connections represent a major resource that can help the country strengthen its position in the global digital economy.
