The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) has announced the temporary appointment of Alfeus Benjamin as a member and board’s chairperson, effective 28 July until 31 December.
The appointment was made by the minister of education, innovation, youth, sport, arts and culture, Sanet Steenkamp.
A statement by NSC says: “ This temporary measure was necessitated by the expiry of the terms of office of five board members on 30 June, which reduced the remaining membership below the number required to constitute a quorum.”
It further states that Benjamin’s appointment ensures continuity of governance and oversight during this interim period, allowing the commission to maintain its critical functions in supporting the development of sport across the country.
Benjamin brings extensive executive leadership experience to the commission, having served as the Municipality of Swakopmund chief executive.
“He is the highest-ranking official of the municipality, responsible for providing strategic direction to the entire municipal administration, overseeing all administrative functions, implementing council policies and ensuring efficient service delivery.”
His core competencies span strategic leadership and management, policy implementation, financial and human resources management, planning and development and institutional innovation and improvement.
