Vipers’ Denis Lavagne names 19-man travelling squad

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC head coach Denis Lavagne has officially named a 19-man travelling squad.

Tonight, they depart for Mauritania on Tuesday evening, aboard Qatar Airways, ahead of their crucial second-leg tie against FC Nouadhibou in the Preliminary Round 1 of the CAF Champions League.

The Venoms, who were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw in the first leg at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, face a steep challenge to advance to the final qualification round.

Hillary Mukundane had given Vipers an early lead in Kitende before FC Nouadhibou equalised through Sidi Ahmed Mohamed El Abd.

Lavagne is confident to handle the task in West Africa, featuring top stars like Cesar Manzoki, Faruku Miya, and skipper Hillary Mukundane.

The decisive return fixture will be played on Sunday at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Nouakchott.

Vipers will need an outright victory or a high-scoring draw of more than two goals in Nouakchott to guarantee their passage to the next round on aggregate.
