LAUTOKA — Following Friday’s sensational record-chase of 249 runs in the second T20 International, the West Indies were unable to replicate their magical form, falling to India by 14 runs in a hard-fought third T20I match on Sunday, October 11.
Electing to bat first, India posted a formidable total of 223 in their allotted 20 overs, anchored by a fluent 69 from top-order batsman Sharma.
The West Indies bowling attack fought back with disciplined spells, as Roston Chase, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Springer each picked up two wickets to restrict further damage.
In reply, the West Indies chase got off to a difficult start with the early loss of opener Shai Hope. Despite a heavy cluster of dot balls in the middle overs that ultimately escalated the required run rate, strong contributions from Shimron Hetmyer (43), Nicholas Pooran (42), and an unbeaten late surge by Shamar Springer (35*) kept Caribbean hopes alive until the final overs.
The Maroon side finished on 209 for 7, falling just 14 runs shy of the target. Arshdeep Singh proved to be the difference-maker for the visitors, taking 3 critical wickets alongside Naman Dhir’s 2 scalps to earn the Man of the Match award.
