Airtel Africa Foundation Awards Tech Scholarships to 25 Young Malawians

The Airtel Africa Foundation  has selected the first cohort of 25 young Malawians for the Airtel Nzeru Fund Tech Scholarship, supporting their pursuit of science and technology-related studies at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). 

The scholarship recipients come from 17 districts across Malawi and will study fields including Sustainable Energy Engineering, Computer Systems, Cyber Security and Metallurgy.

The foundation said the programme is designed to support young people pursuing disciplines that can contribute to Malawi’s future development in areas such as energy, connectivity, technology and engineering.

The scholarship initiative builds on Airtel Nzeru Connect, which is supporting the provision of free internet connectivity to primary and secondary schools across Malawi.

According to the Airtel Africa Foundation, digital inclusion goes beyond connecting young people to the internet. It also involves ensuring that connectivity creates access to education, skills development and opportunities for young people to develop solutions to local challenges.

Through the first scholarship cohort, the foundation is seeking to extend the impact of its digital inclusion efforts by investing in young Malawians with the potential to contribute to the country’s technology and innovation ecosystem.

The programme is expected to help strengthen Malawi’s pipeline of future innovators, engineers and technology professionals while supporting broader efforts to build a digitally skilled workforce.
