A delegation from Gabon’s Ministry of Interior, Security and Decentralisation has concluded an immersion programme in Rwanda focused on the country’s digital transformation and governance systems.
The delegation spent nearly two weeks in Rwanda examining the East African country’s approach to digital transformation and exploring how technology is being integrated into public administration and service delivery.
During the programme, the Gabonese officials studied Rwanda’s experience in digital transformation and e-governance, including the use of artificial intelligence and the development of national digital policies.
The delegation also examined Rwanda’s digitalisation of civil registration and identification services, as well as the country’s approaches to cybersecurity, data protection and privacy. Discussions further covered the interconnection of government systems and the delivery of digital services across public institutions.
Another key area of focus was the digitalisation of public services at the decentralised level. The delegation also explored IREMBO, Rwanda’s online government services platform, which enables citizens and businesses to access a range of public services digitally.
The immersion programme provided an opportunity for the Gabonese delegation to exchange experiences with Rwandan counterparts and gain insights into the policies, systems and practices that have supported Rwanda’s digital transformation journey.
The programme also facilitated the sharing of best practices and lessons that could inform Gabon’s efforts to strengthen digital governance, modernise public services and expand the use of technology across government institutions.
The visit highlights growing interest among African countries in learning from Rwanda’s digital transformation experience as governments seek to improve public-sector efficiency, strengthen digital infrastructure and make government services more accessible to citizens.
