All eyes on the greens as Duiker Tournament welcomes Southern Africa’s best

The bowls are polished, and the greens are cut: one of Botswana’s most esteemed lawn bowls tournaments rolls into action this week.

Players from Botswana and across Southern Africa will converge on Orapa for the annual Orapa Duiker Tournament. Contesting for glory in some of the country’s finest greens, competitors and supporters will get together for some of the finest lawn bowls Botswana has to offer.

A Tournament Built on Regional Rivalry

Since its inception, the Orapa Duiker Tournament has served as a domestic competition open to clubs from across Botswana. With time, however, it has welcomed increasing numbers of entrants from neighboring countries.

Bowlers from Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe have traveled to Botswana in past years to compete alongside local clubs. Organizers say the popularity of the event among Southern African bowlers has helped improve the standard of competition and offered regional players a chance to experience Botswana. Botswana Bowling Association Vice President Edwin Nyoka recently mentioned, “This will be a great opportunity for teams to show the improvement they have made. There will be fewer foreign teams in the tournament, so it gives our teams the chance to step up and really show what they can do.”

While traditionally a domestic tournament, the increasing regional experience of Botswana’s bowlers should provide ample competition for traveling teams.
