Serving a Major Industrial Economy

B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company’s capabilities are particularly important on Grand Bahama, home to a substantial concentration of the country’s industrial activity. The company works across major industrial environments and has developed experience serving organizations whose operations extend far beyond the domestic market.

“We are one of the leading companies here now in The Bahamas that provide this type of service, and we continue to improve our equipment,” Shasheena said.

Its work includes services for the Grand Bahama Shipyard, where  B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company performs pumping and removes oily and bilge water. The company also operates a major wastewater treatment plant and associated lift stations for the Grand Bahama Port Authority, an operational relationship spanning decades.

Additional work includes services for the Grand Bahama Power Company, oil storage facilities and other industrial organizations.

Investing After Hurricane Dorian

Perhaps no period demonstrates  B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company’s resilience more clearly than the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

The catastrophic storm wiped out the company’s equipment, creating an immediate challenge for a business whose services depend heavily on specialized vehicles and machinery. Rather than retreat, the company began rebuilding its fleet.

A longstanding relationship with National Truck Center in Florida proved especially valuable. Based on years of doing business together, the supplier assisted B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company in rapidly replacing vehicles following the storm.

“From 2019 to date, we actually have about 10 vacuum pump trucks, ranging from Kenworth to Freightliners to Sterlings and International,” Shaolin Rolle, Vice President of Operations, said. “So we actually have a huge fleet.”

The rebuilt operation has subsequently become an increasingly sophisticated one.  B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company transitioned its pumping equipment toward blower technology to improve efficiency and equipment longevity while continuing to add specialized assets.

Its investment also extends to portable sanitation. The company offers restroom trailers and handwashing stations, including high-end restroom trailers equipped with features such as air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity. According to the company, it is currently the only provider offering this particular service on the island.

“We have invested quite a bit of money into the trailer restrooms, which are doing extremely well on the island,” Rolle said.

Investment has not slowed. In 2019, the company’s investment totaled $500,000, and in 2026 spent an additional $500,000 on modern equipment, including vacuum trucks and prestige portable toilets.

“We always find a way to upgrade ourselves when it comes to equipment,” Rolle said.

Safety Built into the Culture

Operating wastewater facilities, pump trucks, industrial cleaning equipment, and oil-related services demands a rigorous approach to workplace safety.

For  B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company, that responsibility has particular meaning because the company was built around family.

“Safety is one of our highest priorities for  B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company,” Shasheena said. “Our human resources obviously is our greatest asset. For us to take care of our human resources, we have to ensure that safety is the priority.”

Employees receive safety training, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and participate in programs designed to reinforce safe practices. Incident reporting is encouraged so lessons can be incorporated into updated policies and procedures.

The company also works to align its standards with those of the international businesses it serves, helping ensure employees entering major industrial sites understand and meet customer-specific requirements.

The family origins of the company reinforce that culture.

“If this is a company that you own and your children work there, your wife works there, the ultimate goal is to always ensure that everyone is safe,” Shasheena said.

 B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company complements those procedures with safety drills, fire drills, and ongoing training while operating around the clock. More than 15 employees support a 24-hour shift structure, allowing the company to respond to emergencies at customer facilities whenever required.

Building People Alongside the Business

The same family-oriented philosophy has helped  B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company retain employees in an industry where skilled operators are essential.

Several employees have remained with the company for approximately 15 to 20 years, including experienced pump truck operators. Training provides another important retention tool by giving employees opportunities to develop beyond their original roles.

Staff can begin in areas such as servicing and cleaning portable restrooms before progressing into pump truck operations and other responsibilities.

“There is upward mobility for them,” Shasheena said. “Our greatest asset is the human resources of our company.”

Technology as an Investment

Technology is becoming increasingly important to that development.

B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company has begun using AI-supported surveys to better understand customer requirements and identify services it could introduce or expand. That approach reflects a broader philosophy of studying what government, industry and the private sector require and then investing accordingly.

“We continue to figure out exactly what the island’s needs are, what it is that the government needs, and then what the private sector needs so that we can remain on the cutting edge,” Shasheena said.

The evolution from plumbing into pumping, wastewater management, oil-related services and premium portable sanitation illustrates a willingness to adapt.

“Technology for us is not just viewed as an expense, but it’s also viewed as a strategic investment into our company’s future,” Shasheena said.

Sustainability is similarly integrated into daily operations through responsible resource use, waste management, energy conservation, and compliance with environmental and safety requirements. On Grand Bahama, the company operates within regulations overseen by the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

Answering the Community’s Call

“We’ve saved a lot of homes,” Shasheena said. “That is our commitment to our community and keeping our community safe.”

Employees participate voluntarily, allowing the company to maintain its own operational responsibilities while making equipment available when the community needs additional support.

Preparing for the Next Five Years

As Grand Bahama continues rebuilding following Hurricane Dorian and construction, tourism and events generate new demand; B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company sees considerable room for expansion.

One of its most important future opportunities is trenchless piping. With aging clay pipelines present in parts of The Bahamas, the company sees potential for methods that can rehabilitate infrastructure while reducing excavation and protecting existing water, communications and power utilities.

“We’re moving heavily towards trenchless piping for the next five years,” Rolle said.

The company also intends to expand its fleet, improve response times, pursue additional long-term contracts and build relationships with more global organizations. Bundled sanitation offerings combining waste removal with luxury portable restroom services provide another avenue for growth, while package wastewater plants may become increasingly relevant as development accelerates.

Expansion to additional islands is firmly within that vision.

“As construction, tourism and events continue to expand here, we see opportunities to also continue to expand our fleet,” Shasheena said.

Yet regardless of how large its geographical footprint becomes, the priorities behind  B&B Galaxy Waste Management Company remain remarkably close to those established when the company began more than 40 years ago.
