D’Yani – Live Life & Prosper (LLAP)

Now comes Live Life & Prosper (LLAP), an album that shows there’s more to D’yani than the image of Jamaica’s latest heartthrob. Across 11 tracks, he moves between reggae, dancehall, R&B, Lover’s Rock and even touches of ska, using those styles to explore love, family, faith and the ups and downs of everyday life.

The album gets off to a strong start with Journey, a song about perseverance and keeping faith when the road gets rough. It’s a fitting introduction because D’yani isn’t selling an overnight-success story. He’s talking about putting in the work and continuing to move forward.

Then comes Live A Little, the album’s most immediately accessible track and arguably its defining moment. Its message is uncomplicated: don’t let life’s problems stop you from enjoying life. The easygoing reggae feel suits D’yani particularly well, allowing his voice to carry the song without unnecessary production tricks.

Dutchpot takes us into more familiar Lover’s Rock territory, with a straightforward declaration of love and commitment. On And On is more contemporary, combining dancehall and R&B influences around a theme of attraction and intimacy. It’s slicker and more sensual, while Blooming offers one of the album’s stronger lyrical ideas, celebrating women who continue to grow and prosper despite the obstacles they face.

D’yani is at his most convincing when he keeps things personal. Miss You Bad turns romantic longing into something resembling an addiction, and the metaphor gives the song some emotional bite. Fi Mi Mama goes even deeper, paying tribute to his mother and, by extension, mothers whose sacrifices often go unnoticed. It’s difficult to fake that kind of sentiment, and D’yani doesn’t try.

The second half of the album leans increasingly towards spirituality. Love Is Infinite delivers a broad message of unity and compassion, while Joy Come A Morning looks at hardship with the familiar reggae belief that brighter days are ahead. Clasp Your Hands is a personal prayer of gratitude, and by the time we reach Jah Has Been Too Good, D’yani has made his spiritual position unmistakably clear.

There are a few moments when the album could have benefited from a little more musical variety. Several songs share similar themes of gratitude, love and perseverance, and the messages can occasionally become predictable. But D’yani’s voice gives the material enough warmth to keep it engaging. Production teams such as XTM Nation, Natural High, Echo Beats, and Koastal Kings provide suitably modern backdrops without overwhelming the singer.

That’s ultimately what works best about Live Life & Prosper (LLAP). D’yani doesn’t need to shout to make his point. His strength is in the relaxed delivery, the soulful vocals and the willingness to show vulnerability. The album isn’t trying to redefine reggae or dancehall. Instead, it introduces us to an artist with something personal to say and, importantly, the vocal ability to say it well.

Live Life & Prosper (LLAP) is a sincere and enjoyable listen, and a convincing step forward for D’yani. The journey is still unfolding, but this is a pretty good indication of where he wants to go.
