The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru as the acting commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC).
Nyakikuru has also been elevated to the acting rank of major general with immediate effect.
The appointment was confirmed by Col Chris Magezi, the acting director of defence public information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs.
Nyakikuru replaces Maj Gen David Mugisha, who is set to attend the National Defence College course abroad in the coming months.
In a statement, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) commended Mugisha for his service as SFC commander.
“The UPDF thanks Maj Gen David Mugisha for his outstanding tour of duty as commander SFC and wishes him good luck in his strategic security studies,” the statement said.
The army also congratulated Nyakikuru on his appointment and promotion, wishing him success in his new role.
The Special Forces Command is an elite unit of the UPDF tasked with protecting the president and undertaking specialised military operations.
