HB On The Scene: Top Moments From The LaQuan Smith Spring/Summer 2027 Show At NYFW
Laquan Smith's 2027 NYFW show featured a climate-controlled tropical oasis, with celebs and a 'Children of Blood & Bone' capsule collection.

There’s not many places in New York where you can find tall palm trees in a climate-controlled space, but this is fashion darling, dream big. Designer LaQuan Smith took over Brookfield Place Mall for his Spring/Summer 2027 NYFW show and guests watched the presentation of his latest collection beneath the towering foliage.
Not only was HB on the scene to witness the fashion spectacular, we were granted backstage access to see how the glam portion of the show all came together.
The Glam
Behind the seams, True Hair Company provided bundles for the models who wore bouffants, french rolls, and up dos to match the business chic aesthetic of the collection.
The glam team, led by Key hairstylist Evanie Frausto and key MUA Raissa Flowers and key nail design consultant Gina Edwards, put together a cohesive look to execute Laquan’s vision.
“The woman is a cold, controlled seductress — part ’90s supermodel villainess, part noir temptress — moving through a world of silk shadows, pony hair leather, jeweled tones, and late-night luxury,” said LaQuan in a statement.
LaQuan’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection boldly mixed prints and textures while pairing together pieces for the everyday woman to transition from day to night.
“The LaQuan Smith woman is changing,” he told WWD at his showroom before the big show. “People don’t shop LaQuan like they used to,” Smith admitted. “LaQuan was known back in the day as the go-to for that quintessential nightlife minidress or that video vixen catsuit. Now, my customer is coming to me for all different spectrums of her life, which has allowed me to look at my collection from a much deeper point of view.”

NeNe Leakes Arrives Fashionably Late
NeNe Leakes arrived fashionably late to the show because she was slaying at Luar’s runway show moments before. But she was well worth the wait. The ‘RHOA’ queen looked fabulous in a sleek trench coat dress and bouncy blonde bob that was a star in its own right. NeNe may be from the A, but she represented in the big city with her big personality and style thanks to celebrity stylist Paris Chea.
‘Children of Blood & Bone’ Capsule Collection

The cast of the highly anticipated ‘Children Of Blood & Bone’ were in attendance. LaQuan created a three-piece capsule collection inspired by the film. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood, Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg and Ayra Starr, and artist & cultural consultant Laolu Senbanjo ejoyed the showcase from the front row. The limited-edition designs will be available exclusively at Moda Operandi.
The Bambi Dress

A highly talked about piece from the collection was a mini dress dubbed the “Bambi.” The look embodies LaQuan’s take on transitional statement pieces for women who mean business about their style. The collection of skirts, blouses, structured blazers, peplum tops and flowy dresses gives typical workwear that sexy LaQuan flair.
The Celebs Come Out For Laquan

The girls (and guys) come out for LaQuan Smith. From Coco Jones to Serge Ibaka, Yung Miami and Crystal Stewart, it was a star-studded crowd. Other names include: Enika Hart, Kristy Scott, Wyclef Jean, Jackie Aina, The Combs Twins, Coco and Ice-T and more.
At the end of the show, LaQuan received a round of applause for his display and fabulous persona. Because he puts as much effort into his own appearance as he does his clothes and it shows.
