By Zoila Palma: Pope Leo XIV has encouraged young people attending the Third National Youth Day in Monterrey, Mexico, to strengthen their relationship with Christ and embrace their call to holiness.
The gathering is taking place August 15–16, 2026, bringing young Catholics together with their pastors for prayer, reflection and fellowship.
In a message to organizers and participants, Pope Leo described the event as an opportunity for young people to encounter Christ and discover the deeper purpose of their lives. “It is a beautiful opportunity for all of you to meet, together with your pastors, an encounter that springs from communion with Christ,” he said.
The Pope urged participants to live out the words of Jesus, “And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning,” from the Gospel of John. He stressed that remaining united with Christ is essential for young people who want to help others find faith, particularly amid challenges such as violence, indifference and a lack of meaning.
Pope Leo also encouraged the young participants to make time for silence and reflection so they can discern what is truly worthwhile in their lives.
