Sir Errol steps down; Finisterre named Acting Governor General

The Office of the Prime Minister has announced that Sir Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles demitted office as Governor General of Saint Lucia on July 31, 2026. Felix Finisterre assumed duties as Acting Governor General effective August 1.

Sir Errol was sworn in as Acting Governor General on November 11, 2021, and officially became Governor General on November 1, 2024.

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre paid tribute to him for his service.

On behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, the Prime Minister expressed “profound gratitude” for Sir Errol’s service, praising his dignity and respect for the office.

Pierre also wished Sir Errol and his family good health and God’s continued blessing.

Finisterre has decades of experience in education, community development, sustainable tourism, public administration, and regional development.

He recently received a Gimies award for his work in community-based tourism, heritage conservation and sustainable destination management.

Pierre congratulated the new Acting Governor General and wished him “every success” as he takes on his new responsibilities.
