Team Uganda was officially flagged off on Saturday 17th October, ahead of the 11th Africa Aquatics Zone III Championships, which will take place in Kampala at Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) from October 21 to 25, with the hosts looking forward to competing on home soil.

The flag-off ceremony and press briefing were held on Saturday, October 17, at Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU), where Uganda Aquatics unveiled its squads for the regional competition.

Uganda will field a total of 197 athletes across five squads, including 76 women and girls. The team will compete in swimming, masters swimming, water polo and open water swimming as the country prepares to welcome the region’s aquatics community for the championships.

The swimming and water polo events will be held at KISU, while the open water competition will take place at Entebbe Sailing Club. Team Uganda will be accommodated at Speke Resort Munyonyo throughout the championships.

Uganda will face regional opposition from Burundi, Djibouti, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and Tanzania, with visiting delegations expected to begin arriving at Entebbe International Airport on Monday, October 19.

For the swimming squad, the competition presents an opportunity to defend Uganda’s Zone III title while competing before a home crowd.

Uganda’s swimming contingent comprises an A team of 59 athletes, including 26 female swimmers, and a B team of 22 athletes, six of whom are female.

Beyond the two swimming squads and the masters contingent, Uganda will also be represented by 40 open water swimmers, including 15 female athletes, and 22 water polo players, two of whom are female.

The open water team will be guided by coaches Abel Ddamulira and Joshua Lule, while Amos Bakka and Embren Kato will lead the water polo contingent.

The swimming technical team is headed by Thomas Tamale, alongside Allan Kiiza, Joachim Serwadda, Solomon Okiidi, Achillie Jooga and Hamiddah. Masters swimming will be managed by Henry Kakooza and Tabitha Nakasinde.

With the flag-off complete, Team Uganda now turns its attention to the competition, carrying the responsibility of representing the host nation while seeking strong performances across all four disciplines.

As Kampala prepares to welcome the visiting teams, the October 21–25 championships will provide Uganda’s swimmers and other aquatics athletes with an opportunity to compete against regional opposition on home soil.
