UPDATE: Police identify two women killed in boat crash

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has identified the two women who died in Saturday night’s marine collision off Anse Cochon as 21-year-old Mhakeida Nestor of La Fargue, Choiseul, and 25-year-old Debbie Dolor of Market Road Soufrière.

Police said the collision occurred at about 11:55 p.m. and involved the vessel Ocean Angel and the pirogue Mango Tours.

According to preliminary investigations, Mango Tours was travelling south while Ocean Angel was heading north when the vessels collided.

The impact caused Mango Tours to sink, while Ocean Angel also sustained damage. Police said a section of the damaged vessel has since been recovered.

Authorities confirmed that 14 people sustained injuries, while two others remain unaccounted for. Search and rescue operations are continuing.

Before police released their official statement, a rescuer told St Lucia Times that survivors were found clinging to wreckage before being brought ashore to a nearby beach.

He described the rescue effort as frantic, with several people suffering serious injuries.

Police said further information will be provided as it is verified and becomes available.

The RSLPF has extended condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
