A year after the rebranding of PostBank Uganda to Pearl Bank, the Tier I financial institution says the transition is beginning to redefine its market position, with early signs pointing to deeper engagement in financial inclusion and enterprise development.

The bank adopted its new identity in June 2025 following government and shareholder approval, marking a strategic shift aimed at aligning the institution with Uganda’s broader socio-economic transformation agenda.

The rebrand introduced a new corporate identity, including a name, logo and visual language. According to Julius Kakeeto, the managing director of Pearl Bank, the transition reflects a deliberate move towards becoming a digitally progressive and inclusive financial institution that is capable of responding to evolving customer needs.

Kakeeto says the new brand is intended to symbolise trust, resilience and prosperity – values it seeks to embed in its operations. The strategy is anchored in expanding access to financial services while supporting entrepreneurship, particularly among underserved populations.

Kakeeto said the homegrown bank, which was established in 1926, is prioritising sustainable financial inclusion and enterprise growth.

“This ambition is driven by the need to ensure that all Ugandans, regardless of location or status, can access relevant and affordable financial services while supporting business development,” he said.

The bank has since rolled out a range of products targeting micro, small and medium enterprises, including financing solutions for agriculture, education and small businesses. In parallel, it is scaling digital platforms such as mobile banking applications, USSD services and wallet solutions to bridge accessibility gaps.

The bank also expanded both its physical and digital infrastructure as part of its growth strategy. The opening of its Luwero branch, used as a pilot for the rebrand, marked a key milestone in this transition. The bank now operates a network of 59 branches.
