*The American Black Film Festival is preparing for a milestone year, unveiling its 2026 non-competitive showcase lineup exclusively with EURweb as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Set to take place in Miami Beach from May 27-31 under the theme “Homecoming,” the festival will spotlight a wide range of storytelling through three curated sections: Voices Of Culture, African Stories, and the AI x XR Storytelling Showcase.

The Voices Of Culture program brings together 40 short films created by directors of African descent, representing countries such as Rwanda, Belgium, Nevis, and Colombia. Selected by invitation, the showcase includes more than 15 world premieres and features performers like Renée Elise Goldsberry, Tabitha Brown, Jabari Banks, and Russell Hornsby. Among the highlighted titles are “The Day You Find Your Name,” “Penny in the Sky,” “If only you knew,” “Crossroads,” “Bid,” “Fairytales,” “Peace by Piece,” “Touching,” and “I Got My Brother.”

Additional films in the Voices Of Culture lineup include “500 Seconds To Tell You,” which follows a young man racing to confess his feelings before a world-ending catastrophe, and “Iku Aka (Knocking on the Door),” where a joyful Igbo wedding is disrupted by a long-buried family secret. “Woman Land” centers on two Somali sisters in Minneapolis running a secret matchmaking business, while “Buttercup Pudding Pie” follows a father whose trip to his daughter’s birthday takes an unexpected turn.

The lineup also features “Please Return Your Cart,” about a former soldier pushed toward a second chance at love, and “Mini Me,” which explores grief within a Jamaican-American family during hurricane season. In “Keep My Brother,” a woman struggles to care for her sibling during a severe mental health episode, while “Vengeance Is All I Have” tracks a young man seeking revenge who discovers an unexpected family connection.

Other selections include “Echoes Beneath The Hill,” set on the brink of the Rwandan genocide, and “JOHN,” where a Black female lawyer disguises herself to navigate discrimination. “Intergalactic Ingenue” blends romance and sci-fi as a man discovers his alien girlfriend shares a hivemind with his ex, while “HOMEbirth” examines the risks Black women face in childbirth despite careful planning.

Also featured are “TIGUERONAS,” a story of revenge and friendship after an abusive relationship, and “EL TIGUERE,” which follows an Afro-Dominican father rebuilding a bond with his son through an underground garden. Rounding out the section are “Yellow Pages,” “BERTHA,” “When They’re Gone,” and “Fragments of Joy,” each offering distinct perspectives on connection, loss, and resilience.

The African Stories section centers on emerging filmmakers from across the continent, presenting five short films that are all premieres. The lineup includes “MR. ROGERS,” “Bam Bam,” “The Break-In,” “Our Brother,” and “Amon,” with projects spanning Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya.

Meanwhile, the AI x XR Storytelling Showcase explores new creative frontiers through works developed using artificial intelligence and immersive tools. Curated with GRX Immersive Labs, the section features “The Haunting of RiverFalls,” “FAME FARM,” “Cowbone,” “The B Side: The Future is Past,” and “Eat The Rich,” spanning genres from sci-fi and Afrofuturism to horror.

“As we celebrate 30 years of ABFF, this year’s showcase programming reflects both the breadth of storytelling today and where it’s headed,” said NICE CROWD President Nicole Friday.

“African Stories introduces distinct voices from across the continent, all premiering their work on our stage, while the AI x XR Storytelling Showcase explores how emerging technologies are reshaping the creative process,” she continued. “Voices of Culture brings together a wide range of perspectives from around the world. Together, these sections underscore ABFF’s continued commitment to championing new voices, expanding access to global audiences, and serving as a platform for discovery and what’s next in storytelling.”
