South Africa seek to reach the World Cup knock out phase for the first time if they overcome South Korea in their last Group A game at the Monterrey stadium on Thursday at 5am [EAT].

The Bafana Bafana have failed to move out of the groups in their previous three participations including the 2010 edition they hosted on home soil.

Hugo Broos’ side endured a 2-0 defeat to co-hosts Mexico in their opening match before securing a 1-1 draw with Czech Republic that left them with hope.

On the other hand, South Korea, on three points after coming from behind to beat Czech Republic 2-1 were defeated 1-0 by Mexico in their second match.

The African side will miss the services of midfield gem Teboho Mokoena who scored his 10th international goal in the draw with Czechia.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has accumulated two bookings.

He joins Themba Zwane who are also suspended for the must win clash against the Asian giants but Sphephelo Sithole could return following his red card in the opener.

Sadly, South Africa are not confident after failing to win any of their past six international contests (D3 L3), with their most recent success coming against Zimbabwe on December 29 in the Africa Cup of Nations.

In the same group, Mexico, already through to the round of 32 face Czech Republic at the same time with the latter with an opportunity if they win against the co-hosts.
