Canadian authorities classify Kesi Fevrier’s death a femicide

Ottawa police have released the name of a man who is reportedly linked to the death of a Saint Lucian woman found in an apartment building.

Canadian authorities have declared the death of 27-year-old Kesi Fevrier from Mom Repos a femicide.

Just before her body was found in the Canadian capital on Saturday morning, Quebec officers responded to a single-car crash east of Highway 50 near Papineauville. They found a man inside with injuries that did not match the crash, and he was later pronounced dead.

On Monday, police identified the man in the car crash as Kingsley Nwude, 34, from Ottawa.

St. Lucia Times has learned that Nwude was Fevrier’s former boyfriend and originally from Nigeria. The night before her body was found, she reportedly told a family member that he had asked to meet and talk.

Sources said that on the night before her body was found, neighbours heard “disturbing noises” from the apartment and called the police.

Police arrived at the Lowertown home at 11:09 a.m. on Saturday, where they found Fevrier, who was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

Fevrier had recently returned to Ottawa from Saint Lucia to continue her studies. She attended Saint Joseph’s Convent and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, and was the first runner-up in the 2018 Miss Universe-Saint Lucia pageant. In 2023, she graduated from Carleton University. She was known for her involvement in her community and several organisations.

Many groups and friends who knew her well have shared their condolences.
