PRIME Minister Mark Carney in a post on X said: “Holi is a celebration of renewal, forgiveness, and the strength of community. I had the opportunity to celebrate the Festival of Colours in Mumbai this week. And today, as Hindus in Canada and around the world gather with family and friends, I am wishing you all a happy Holi.

Premier David Eby

PREMIER David Eby in a statement said: “As winter loosens its grip and the promise of spring begins to unfold, communities throughout British Columbia are coming together to celebrate Holi.

“Known as the Festival of Colours, Holi is an important Hindu holiday that marks the arrival of spring and celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

“Here at home and around the world, families and friends mark the occasion by lighting bonfires, sharing traditional foods, singing and dancing, and joyfully tossing coloured powder and water.

“B.C. is home to a vibrant and welcoming Hindu community. Throughout the province, Hindus welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds to enjoy the festivities and learn more about their faith and culture.

“These joyful gatherings remind us of the strength found in diversity, the importance of coming together and the shared hope for brighter days ahead.

“I wish everyone celebrating a happy and safe Holi.

“Holi Hai!”

CONSERVATIVE Leader Pierre Poilievre said: “Around the world, there are few festivals as instantly recognizable as Holi. Streets become rivers of vibrant colour as music and dancing fill the air.

“Behind each colour is the celebration of the triumph of good over evil and renewal for the future. Today offers a chance to reflect on the stories that continue to offer spiritual guidance and wisdom for Hindus.

“Even as the day comes to a close, the brightness of the Festival of Colours continues with the arrival of spring, encouraging us to look ahead with hope and optimism.

“While hundreds of thousands across Canada share in the joy and comfort of Holi, Conservatives send our best wishes to everyone celebrating. May you find yourself refreshed as we welcome the changing seasons together.

“Happy Holi! Holi Hai!”
