Full list: Six Orlando Pirates youngster train with first team
Orlando Pirates have handed six DDC youngsters a chance to impress in first-team training as Abdeslam Ouaddou assesses the next generation of Buccaneers.
Orlando Pirates have opened the door for another group of exciting academy talents. Six youngsters joined the first-team squad on the opening day of pre-season training.
The young Buccaneers featured in the club’s first training day media. Namely Cristian Derbyshire, Mpho Mphekgoane, Tshepo Mhlambi, Simphiwe Masilela, Lebohang Mohlale and Lungelo Dondolo.
The group arrives after a memorable season with the Sea Robbers DDC side. They made history by winning their first-ever DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) title during the 2025/26 campaign.
ORLANDO PIRATES’ NEXT GENERATION GET THEIR CHANCE
Under the guidance of coach Roscoe Krieling, the young Buccaneers produced one of the strongest campaigns in the competition’s history.
The title-winning side finished the campaign with an incredible 75 points. They brok the previous DDC record of 70 points held by Kaizer Chiefs.
Now, six members of that successful squad have been given the opportunity to prove themselves at the highest level.
Defenders Cristian Derbyshire and Mpho Mphekgoane are being assessed as central defensive options. Tshepo Mhlambi provides an option at left-back.
In midfield, Simphiwe Masilela, Lebohang Mohlale and Lungelo Dondolo will look to impress.
The youngsters are expected to be monitored by head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. They could fly to Spain for the next phase of pre-season preparations.
FOLLOWING A SUCCESSFUL PATHWAY
The opportunity reflects Orlando Pirates’ growing tradition of promoting talented young players into the first team.
In recent seasons, the club has seen academy graduates make major breakthroughs. Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota became examples of how quickly young talent can rise through the ranks at Mayfair.
For the latest group of DDC champions, this is the first major step towards following that path.
Pirates are balancing domestic ambitions and a new era under Ouaddou. The club’s youth system could once again provide the next wave of stars ready to make their mark in the Betway Premiership.
