Hafizi Khassim unfazed by competition at URA FC

Transitioning from one club to another can daunt many young players, but newly signed URA FC goalkeeper Khasim Hafizi insists he is relish-bound for the intense competition awaiting him at his new home.

Having completed a transfer from Express FC on a two-year deal, Hafizi steps straight into a fiercely contested goalkeeping department featuring Chrispas Kusiima, Muhammad Ssekeba, and Abdul Magada.

However, the former Red Eagles captain, who frequently wore the armband for Wankulukuku last season, views the fierce internal rivalry not as an obstacle, but as a catalyst for growth.

“I am fully aware of the competition in goal because URA FC already has very good goalkeepers,” Hafizi remarked following his unveiling.

“For me, that is healthy competition. It pushes everyone to work harder and improve, and I believe it will ultimately help me become a better goalkeeper.”

Under head coach Jimmy Kintu, URA FC have set ambitious targets for the 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign following a period of rebuilding.

Hafizi believes the squad’s ambition matches his own personal goals as he seeks to earn the trust of the technical staff.

“I have come here with a lot of ambition,” he added. “I want to work hard, support my teammates, and contribute whenever I get the opportunity. My immediate focus is to adapt quickly, keep improving, and help the team achieve its targets.”

Hafizi’s modern skill set, particularly his composure under high balls and sharp distribution, gives coach Kintu diverse tactical options as URA look to convert their defensive stability into a genuine title challenge this season.
