Fans of Killer Mike know him for his music, his political activism and his commitment to Black economic empowerment. But in a recent interview on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, the rapper-entrepreneur got personal with host Shannon Sharpe, talking about his 20-year marriage to wife Shana Render, including the badass move she made when she caught him cheating.
Mike told Sharpe that although he’s had his fair share of relationships with people who came into his life at the right time, he considers Shana his “twin flame.”
And one of the things Mike believes makes their marriage work is Shana’s willingness to let him be himself, even if it means taking an occasional trip to the strip club, but Mike says he knows there’s a line. He told Sharpe a story about getting caught “having too much fun” with a dancer he met in the club.
“I was smitten by this dancer, but I knew we weren’t supposed to be doing [anything] outdoors. My old lady didn’t like this dancer,” Mike recalled about the woman who wanted him in a “lustful” manner. Then, Shana showed up at the woman’s house in the middle of the night.
“I got a call when I got in the door. ‘Say, man, [if you don’t] bring your ass out that girl house right now? I’m going to kill both of y’all,'” Mike continued. “I said, ‘What, man? Get out of here. Stop playing, man. I ain’t even over there, man. You just seen my truck.”
He added that, “When I looked out there, my wife had my gun in that driveway pointed at me. I was like, ‘Okay, damn.'”
“I was like Henry in “Goodfellas!” I woke up like ‘Aye.’ I got in that truck, man. She said, ‘I ain’t never seen your fat ass run so fast in my life.’ Being monogamous got a lot easier after that,” he added.
Since the interview went live, social media has exploded with appreciation posts for Mike’s wife.
“Hunny Mike the truth but Mrs. Wife the answer,” wrote someone on TikTok.
Another wrote: “she was made for him. by the good Lord above. this is real right here.”
Killer Mike, real name Michael Santiago Render, and Shana has been married for nearly two decades— though they kept their wedding a secret from their families for the first nine years after they eloped in Las Vegas.
