International News: Argentina seeks to become Latin America’s Artificial Intelligence hub

By Zoila Palma:  Argentina is positioning itself to become a major artificial intelligence hub in Latin America as President Javier Milei’s administration pushes deregulation, investment incentives and technology infrastructure to attract billions of dollars in new investment.

The government is promoting data centers, high-speed connectivity and partnerships with technology companies as part of its broader strategy to expand the country’s digital economy, Digital Shield reports.

One initiative involves expanding satellite internet connectivity in rural and isolated areas through Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX.

The government says improved connectivity could benefit thousands of remote schools while also creating opportunities for greater use of artificial intelligence and automation in agriculture and other sectors.

The government is promoting the Regime of Incentive for Large Investments, which offers tax, customs and foreign-exchange incentives to major projects, while initiatives involving AI, data centers and agricultural technology are being developed.

Among the projects being discussed are large-scale computing infrastructure investments, including the reported Stargate Argentina initiative involving OpenAI and Sur Energy.
