By Zoila Palma: Following the opening ceremony for Belize Climate Week 2026 on August 21 in Punta Gorda, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) facilitated a series of afternoon engagements focused on strengthening youth leadership and building environmental resilience.
A key development was the signing of a letter of intent between PACT and the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management to establish a Youth Climate Academy.
The proposed Youth Climate Academy represents a strategic partnership aimed at equipping young Belizeans with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to participate meaningfully in climate action.
The afternoon programme also featured the official launch of the National Climate Change Education Policy (NCAEP), an initiative designed to strengthen Belize’s capacity to respond to climate-related challenges.
The launch concluded with the presentation of 32 scholarship awards to representatives from various organizations who will participate in piloting the programme.
