Proteas Women stun Australia in seven-run victory
Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp played key roles in Protea women victory against Australia
Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp played key roles in the South African women’s cricket team’s seven-run win over Australia in Arundel, England.
The match served as a warm-up for the sides ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The tournament will get underway in Birmingham on the 12th of June 2026.
South Africa, who were sent in to bat first, managed a respectable 163 for seven in their 20 overs.
In reply, Ismail took four for 39 in her four overs as the Aussies were dismissed for 156 with two deliveries remaining.
“Still not happy with certain things that I’ll go back in the nets and work on, but the bowling unit came out, and we were confident enough to know we were going to defend the score. Australia is a world-class team, they got world-class players in their team and for us to get the wickets at crucial stages in the game really took the momentum forward for us. Hopefully, for the next few training games as well, we can take the winning momentum forward.”
A strong return from Shabnim Ismail has South Africa building momentum before the #T20WorldCup
