We are devastated by the untimely passing of Clara Bale, 23, a devoted and beloved member of our community. Clara embodied the Pan-African spirit that grounds this institution in a way rarely seen. She deeply understood the history of the Centre, and revered its role as a champion of African voices and culture. Moreover, she saw that the same need to protect our cultural heritage exists just as much today as it ever has. She happened across The Africa Centre soon after she moved to London from Paris, and made it her home. She brought with her a quintessential Parisian elegance and a unique, fresh perspective. Her ancestry was Togolese, Ivorian, and Martinican, and she encouraged us to make sure that The Africa Centre reflected the needs and cultures of all Africa.
