Chief Justice Surya Kant verbally observed that the Supreme Court had not approved any changes to the Election Commission’s Form 6, which is used to register new voters. The poll panel had in a statement on September 26 claimed that a declaration attached to the form for the special intensive revision of electoral rolls had been upheld by the Supreme Court.

“Any modified Form 6 has not been approved by us,” Kant said. “Let’s be clear. When the record is produced, we would like to see who modified [it].” Kant was hearing petitions seeking that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar be suspended for allegedly taking unilateral decisions about the voter roll revision.

The court refused to pass an interim order on the pleas, saying that it would first seek responses from the Election Commission and other respondents. The bench issued notices to Kumar, the poll panel, the Union government, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, and Deputy Election Commissioner Maneesh Garg. Read on.
