A 37-year-old man from Augier, Vieux Fort, has died in a suspected drowning at Il Pirata Beach, according to police.
The deceased has been identified as Gillian Garib.
Police said officers attached to the Police Marine Unit in Vieux Fort received information around 2:30 p.m. on December 21, regarding a possible drowning at the beach and immediately began searching the surrounding waters.
Around 3:45 p.m., the body was located a few feet from the shoreline and was recovered from the water by relatives.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service transported the body to St Jude Hospital, where Garib was pronounced dead. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
