By Zoila Palma: On August 9, 2026, the UDP hosted its convention in Benque Viejo del Carmen to elect its Mayoral candidate for the upcoming 2027 municipal elections.
After the last vote was counted, Yusef Guerra emerged victorious defeating Danette Mendez.
“First, I want to thank God, because I know that without Him none of this would be possible. Thank you for opening this door for me and allowing me to take this first step to serve my community,” Guerra expressed.
“I don’t see this as a personal triumph. I feel it as an enormous responsibility and, above all, as an opportunity to give back to my community a little of everything it has given me,” he added.
“Benque is our home. Our families, our friends, our memories, and our dreams are here,” Guerra said.
Meanwhile, the PUP is scheduled to host a convention on August 23, in which 2-term Mayor Jorge Rosales will face Jenny Martinez.
