The Anti-Corruption Court has granted Ambassador Herbert Kiguli a cash bail of Shs10 million after he presented substantial sureties.
The court ordered his sureties to execute non-cash bonds worth Shs300 million each and ensure that Kiguli returns to court on November 11, 2026, for mention of his case.
Kiguli, 59, the Consul General at the Consulate General of Uganda in Mombasa, Kenya, was arrested by the Inspectorate of Government on October 5, 2026, and remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of causing financial loss of Shs494.097 million to the government.
Prosecution alleges that between November 9 and 10, 2020, while serving as Commissioner for Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in Entebbe, Kiguli irregularly and arbitrarily originated and signed five requisitions totalling Shs614.768 million on behalf of the principal of Bukalasa Agricultural College.
According to the prosecution, Kiguli knew or had reason to believe that his actions would cause financial loss to the government.
The prosecution further alleges that the actions resulted in a loss of Shs494.097 million and were prejudicial to the interests of his employer, the Government of Uganda.
Kiguli has not been convicted of the charges, and the allegations against him remain subject to determination by the court.
