Andrada Mining says it contributed about N$775 million to Namibia’s economy during the 2025/2026 financial year as the company expanded its Uis mine operations in the Erongo region.

According to the company’s FY2026 sustainability report, its local economic contribution increased from N$737 million recorded in the previous financial year.

The report shows that local procurement accounted for N$651 million, compared with N$594 million in FY2025.

The company estimates that its indirect economic contribution reached N$330 million, up from N$314 million in the previous financial year, using World Bank economic multipliers.

The figures come amid concerns previously raised by members of the Uis community on whether local residents are benefiting from job opportunities created by the mine. Some residents have questioned their access to employment as mining operations expand in the area.

Andrada says it increased employment at its Uis mine, with the number of direct employees rising to 394 at the end of the financial year, compared with 277 in FY2025.

The company also engaged 285 contractors.

Of the 394 direct employees, 98% are Namibians, meaning the mine employed approximately 386 Namibian workers.

The company also provided 11 young people from surrounding communities with a 12-month training programme aimed at developing their skills.

Chief executive Anthony Viljoen says the expansion of the Uis operations was creating more opportunities for employment, local procurement and skills development.

“The continued growth of our operations at Uis is creating greater opportunities for economic enhancement through employment, local procurement and skills development,” he says.

According to Viljoen, the company’s focus is to deliver value for the employees and community.

“Responsible practices remain fundamental to how we grow and build a resilient business across our portfolio. As we enter this next phase at Uis, our focus is on ensuring that this progress delivers lasting value for our employees, communities and all stakeholders connected to our operations,” he says.

On workplace safety, the report shows that the company’s total recordable injury frequency rate declined by 29%.

Community development spending also increased to N$1.73 million, compared with N$1.15 million in the previous financial year.

The company further reports conducting 208 formal engagements with stakeholders.

Apart from its tin and tantalum operations at Uis, Andrada is also advancing its Lithium Ridge and Brandberg West projects in Namibia.
