Another Durban water shutdown: These areas will be affected tonight

Residents and businesses across parts of eThekwini’s Central and South Regions will face a temporary water supply interruption tonight as the municipality carries out essential maintenance on the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) Pipeline.

The shutdown is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 26 August, from 18:00 to 22:00.

Why is the water being shut off?

The eThekwini Municipality said the water shutdown is needed to carry out maintenance on the 800mm South Coast Augmentation pumping trunk main.

The work will include:

  • Repairs to air valve leaks
  • Repairs to pipework leaks
  • Replacement of an air valve

The maintenance is intended to support the operation of the water supply system feeding the Amanzimtoti Water Works.

The municipality said it will aim to complete the work within the scheduled four-hour period and restore supply as soon as possible.

However, residents should be aware that water may not return immediately at 22:00.

Once the work is complete, the network will need to be re-pressurised, meaning some areas may experience a gradual restoration of water supply.

Residents in affected areas are advised to plan and store enough water for essential use before the shutdown begins.

The municipality said it will endeavour to restore supply as quickly as possible once the maintenance has been completed.
