Antonio Brown Avoids Prison In Attempted Murder Case
Brown will plead no contest to aggravated assault and receive probation, but his long list of off-field controversies could follow him to Canton.

Former NFL receiver Antonio Brown will accept a plea deal in which he will plead guilty to a lesser charge and avoid prison time.
According to NBC Sports, Brown is set to plead no contest to aggravated assault on Sept. 30. Brown will be sentenced to probation and avoid adjudication which also prevents Brown from being regarded as a convicted felon.
Brown was facing up to 30 years in prison for an incident after a celebrity boxing match in May 2025, in which Brown was attacked by several men and, during the melee, the former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout grabbed a security guard’s gun and fired two shots.
Right after the incident, Brown then fled the country. He was captured and returned to the U.S. to face charges.
“This was not an easy decision,” attorney Mark Eiglarsh said in a statement issued to NBC Sports.
“Antonio believes in his innocence. He believes strongly in his Stand Your Ground defense, and he believes he would ultimately prevail at trial. But when prosecutors put an offer on the table that transforms a potential decades-long prison sentence into a significantly reduced charge and probation, there was simply no way he could reasonably turn it down.”
Brown is eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2027 and while off-field issues aren’t supposed to be taken into consideration, it’s almost impossible to ignore Brown’s several off the field antics. In fact his NFL retirement came during what would be his last game in the NFL on Jan. 2, 2022 in which Brown removed his jersey and walked off the field after being told to get back in the game. Brown claims that he was suffering from an ankle injury that prohibited his play.
“A 12-year veteran, Brown earned first-team All-Pro status in four straight seasons. He qualified for the Pro Bowl seven times. Brown finished his career with 928 catches for 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns. That puts him at 28th, 28th, and (with Travis Kelce’s next touchdown catch) 28th on the all-time list,” NBC Sports reports.
